Maryam Gjerde, RM

Having always been drawn to women’s health, in 2007 I began my nursing career working in Sexual & Reproductive Health. I then changed to Labour & Delivery, where I witnessed the miracle of life and enjoyed supporting families during such a special transition in their lives.
I later accepted a two month volunteer opportunity at a midwifery led clinic in Accra, Ghana (the place where I was born). During that time I observed just how essential midwifery care is not only to women and their families but also the community. I returned to Calgary to pursue my new goal to become a midwife.
The following year I moved to Melbourne, Australia and completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Midwifery. My experiences in Australia established a foundation of how holistic care can be provided within a midwifery led model of care.
I look forward to developing new relationships and empowering women during their birth experience. I feel blessed to have found my way into the profession of midwifery.
