Annegret Topinka, RM

Growing up in Germany, I had several opportunities to witness the work of midwives. Somewhere in between the births of my three cousins and a summer spent accompanying a midwife at home visits and births the seed of midwifery was planted deep inside of me. Ever since, I was determined to go that path and graduated from midwifery school in 2009 in Germany.
It is a privilege (and simply amazing!) to be part of people’s family-building journeys as they discover unknown abilities and strength and grow into their new roles. (And every time I am taking care of clients and their families I pick up something for myself and get the chance to grow too.)
As part of a midwife team in Germany, I attended births in a birth center, at home and in hospital. In 2012, I had the opportunity to work in rural Uganda for half a year as a volunteer midwife in a health center.
I moved to Calgary in 2016, and since have spent as much time as possible in the mountains enjoying the simplicity of life at a campfire after a great hike. Working with Red Community Midwives completes my new life here in Canada. I am honored to be part of this big family that is growing with every new client. And I look forward to providing profound midwifery care to the families of Calgary in all their diversity.
